Cooling System: Turbos compressor and turbine can spin at about 200,00 RPM and the temperature can get up to 1900 degrees. So, you can imagine how aggressive the cooling system needs to be to keep the turbo(s) cool. The cooling is done with the engine oil and the cooler and like any other cooling system, they fail.
Boost Leak: Turbos work hard to build boost pressure or charge air and increase power but a tiny leak or loose clamp can weaken or disable turbo. A leak in the Outlet pipe coupler, turbo the inlet coupler, or turbo inlet pipe can be the main turbo failure.
Wastegate rattle or vacuum supply: Wastegate valves control the boost pressure based on engine speed and load. Once boost pressure is at its desired level, the wastegate valve will begin to open to prevent the compressor speed from increasing. When you hear a rattling noise from the engine compartment or power reduction, a blocked vacuum hose supply or bent hose supply is the most common cause.
